Welcome to another post from our polyculture series this week featuring a support polyculture that produces food, fertilizer, and wildlife in a compact 9m² garden space.

A support polyculture is specifically designed to enhance production polycultures by providing essential services such as pollination, fertility support, or pest control. The primary goal of this particular polyculture is to boost fertility in our broader garden by featuring seven nitrogen-fixing species of plants that can convert atmospheric nitrogen into a form readily available to other plants. For more on nitrogen fixation see here

What's truly remarkable about these species is that five of the seven not only contribute to soil fertility but also offer a profusion of flowers that attract wildlife. These flowers transform into delicious, sweet berries, creating a year-round feast for both nature and the gardener, from early spring to late winter.
